Cartier 8 day world time clock Lanvin - Charles of the Ritz.

Sale price$70,000.00

Here we have an ultra-rare Cartier 8-day World Time desk clock which has a custom inscription on the top reading “Lanvin-Charles Of The Ritz Inc 1964-1971”

this exact clock was sold on auction in 2010 in Hong Kong for approximately USD 10,000. However, it wasn't the same. The one sold in 2010 also had a custom inscription that read “American Express” meaning it was given as a corporate gift but didn't strike us as being more valuable and collectible than the Lanvin.

The original owner of the two historic clocks told us he purchased them both in an estate sale of the Long Island Lanvin home which got us curious as much as anyone would be. Here is some important history we found.

Edouard L. Cournand  was the former president of Lanvin until 1963. When the two companies merged it was changed into LanvinCharles of the Ritz. Edouard was then named honorary chairman. He established Lanvin Parfums Inc. and was known for the creation of the slogan “Promise her anything but give her Arpege” in the 50s. In 1975 Edouard died in his New York City home on Fifth Ave due to a stroke.

Charles Jundt founded his own cosmetics company in 1919. In 1926 he began marketing beauty products under the name \"Charles of the Ritz\". In the early 1950s, the company expanded into the luxury space of department stores like Saks Fifth Ave and Neiman Marcus.

In 1964 Charles Jundt of Charles of the Ritz and Lanvin formed an iconic merger between the two major fragrance companies which was now known as Lanvin-Charles of the Ritz.

This company merger would be memorable to Lanvin but what better to remember the important merger than to be gifted a Cartier world time clock from Charles Jundt founder of Charles of the Ritz.

This Cartier World time 8-day clock features 24 different time zones including New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Hawaii, and many more. The overall condition is great. The dial of the clock is in great condition. It features gilt black hour indices with matching black hour and minute hands as well as the original “Cartier 8 Days” and Swiss stamp. There is light fading at the center of the clock by the Indian Ocean. The case is in good condition as well no dents on the case however, there is surface dirt and grime on the clock from sitting out all of these years. The length of the clock is about 5 inches, the width is an inch and a half, and the height is about 5 inches as well. Powered by its original movement from Concordwatch Co. and still runs perfectly with no issues. It is a manually wound clock with a knob that folds up and down and to top it all off the original serial number is still intact.

This beautiful piece of history is now available from our private archive!

Fantastic experience. Great watch. Reached out to Danny through his website. Was contacted by two great representatives who were both incredibly helpful. Went through most of the transaction with them. As we got to the final stages and shipping I connected with Danny. The watch was as described and the whole process was seamless. I’ve gotten responses from Danny directly post my purchase when I’ve had a quick follow up conversation which I so appreciate. Beyond a great selection of beautiful watches if you are looking for a good customer experience in what can be an intimidating vintage watch game I really do recommend DVW.

Danny was knowledgeable and friendly, with knowledge of multiple brands and a wealth of inventory to delight any vintage watch aficionado (or newbie looking to learn in my case). He set me up with a beautiful and functional watch that’s built to last, and fitted it with a great band that fit me and the watch perfectly. While perusing, I got to watch him interact with other sellers/resellers, and you can tell he is well respected within the community on 47th street, and works hard to procure the best possible inventory by dealing with everyone honestly and straightforwardly. If you want something unique, or just want to look at some beautiful watches, Danny’s your guy. I look forward to coming back and growing my collection!

Danny and his team were phenomenal to work with. They were kind, knowledgeable, and, personable. I got the exact watch I wanted for an extremely reasonable price and Danny and his team (I worked with Ben as well) gave me the confidence that I was buying a certified, real product. Couldn’t recommend them more if you’re looking for vintage watches.

What a find this place is. They have such interesting watches that I don’t normally find elsewhere. Unique watches and a unique experience. Already purchased three watches and am very satisfied. These make excellent gifts for yourself, your loved ones, anyone who appreciates a piece that’s character and class. A watch from here is definitely a conversation starter, and I received multiple compliments.
