Details
The Purest Expression Of The Oyster Archetype
The Oyster Perpetual serves as the bedrock upon which Rolex built its global reputation for mechanical reliability and industrial design. Originating from the groundbreaking combination of Hans Wilsdorf's waterproof Oyster case and the revolutionary self-winding Perpetual rotor mechanism, the model represents pure horological utility. Dating to 1960, this reference 5552 captures the minimalist charm of mid-century Rolex watchmaking, presenting a clean, unpretentious silhouette that has remained effortlessly relevant across more than six decades.
Monochromatic Clarity And Blued Steel Geometry
The focal point of this example is its remarkably clean silver dial, offering a balanced presentation that prioritizes absolute legibility. Framed by a smooth stainless steel bezel, the layout features refined applied hour indices anchored by a stunning, heat-blued central seconds hand. This blued steel hand adds a subtle pop of classic color and texture against the light canvas, catching incoming light with every sweep. By eschewing date apertures and magnifiers, the reference 5552 preserves strict mid-century radial symmetry, complemented beautifully by a tailored leather strap.
Unpolished Case Integrity And Provenance
Condition: Great. The classic 34mm stainless steel case remains unpolished, preserving its original factory geometry, crisp lug lines, and authentic surface profile. Adding a fascinating layer of personal history and provenance, the caseback features a neat vintage presentation engraving dedicated to a Robert O'Neal for 25 years of service at Rotary International. Beneath the caseback sits the legendary early Rolex Caliber 1530 automatic movement, which has been fully bench-tested, running smoothly and operating with mechanical sound precision.
A Timeless Gateway Into Vintage Rolex
The reference 5552 is an ideal choice for the collector who appreciates the quiet confidence, unpolished integrity, and historic nuances of early vintage Rolex. Its classic 34mm Oyster proportions sit flat and comfortably against the anatomy of the wrist, sliding effortlessly beneath a cuff or pairing casually with everyday wear. Offering an unpolished case, a pristine dial with a blued seconds hand, a historic service engraving, and the reliable Caliber 1530, it serves as an extraordinary, story-rich entry point into vintage Rolex collecting.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
