A Mid-Century Entry To The Oyster Case

The reference 6694 is a cornerstone of the vintage Rolex world, representing the classic manual-wind Oysterdate. While stainless steel variants are widely known, the gold-plated examples are less common and provide a warmer, more formal aesthetic while maintaining the tool-watch DNA of the Oyster case. This 1961 example belongs to the earlier production era of the reference, distinguished by its leaf hands—a design detail that was eventually replaced by baton hands in later decades. This configuration offers a softer, more mid-century look that pairs perfectly with the 34mm proportions.

Silver Sunburst And Early Design Language

The silver sunburst dial serves as a clean, radiant backdrop for the gold-tone leaf hands and applied hour markers. The way the dial catches the light provides a sense of depth that contrasts with the simple, utilitarian nature of the manual-wind movement. Because this is an earlier 1961 model, it carries the specific design language of the late fifties and early sixties, offering a level of elegance and vintage character that is unique to the early days of the Oysterdate’s long production run.

Fair Condition With Honest Aging

Condition: Fair. The gold plating on the case shows clear signs of age and thinning, particularly along the edges and lugs, which is a common and honest characteristic of plated watches from this era. This case remains unpolished, preserving the original lines of the mid-century Oyster case. The silver sunburst dial is in good shape, and the leaf hands remain correct for the production year. The watch is presented on a leather strap that complements the warm tones of the gold. As with every watch we offer, this piece has been verified as mechanically sound and is ready to wear.

The Ritual Of A Daily Wind

The Oysterdate 6694 is a watch for the collector who values a tactile connection to their timepiece. As a manual-wind model, it requires the daily ritual of winding the crown, a physical interaction that fosters a genuine bond between the owner and the machine. It is a perfect choice for those who appreciate the understated presence of a 34mm Rolex and want a piece that feels firmly rooted in the 1960s. Its combination of the rare leaf hands and gold-plated finish makes it a distinctive and charismatic addition to any vintage collection.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
