1968 Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694 - Stainless Steel, Blue Dial

Details

The Last Of The Manual Winds

The Reference 6694 holds a special place in the Rolex catalog as one of the last manually-wound models the brand produced. It represents a more direct and elemental form of watchmaking. Without the Perpetual rotor, the case is slimmer, and the connection to the watch is more personal. Paired with a deep blue dial, this Oysterdate is a pure expression of the core Rolex proposition: a tough, reliable, and legible watch that delivers far more character than its simple design suggests.

A Clean Expression Of Vintage Design

This 1968 example is defined by its solid blue dial. The color is rich and provides a unique contrast with the gold-toned hour markers and stainless steel case, making it stand out in a category often dominated by silver and black. At 34mm, the watch wears with an understated confidence that has come back into favor. It is a size that prioritizes comfort and versatility, working just as well today as it did over fifty years ago.

A Solid And Honest Example

The unpolished stainless steel case is in good condition, showing honest wear consistent with its age and retaining its classic proportions. The blue dial is in great shape, as is the crystal. It is fitted to a stainless steel Oyster bracelet is in good shape for age ready for daily wear. This is a well-kept watch that clearly saw use but was never abused. As with every watch we offer, this piece has been verified as mechanically sound and is ready to wear.

The Perfect Starting Point

This is the right watch for someone who wants the integrity of vintage Rolex without the noise of the current market. The manual movement requires a daily interaction that creates a genuine bond with the piece. It is simple, reliable, and carries a visual punch with its blue dial. It works as a great first vintage piece or for the seasoned collector who appreciates the simple purity of the Oysterdate.

History

The Oyster Perpetual occupies a position that no other reference in the Rolex catalog can claim: it is the watch from which everything else descended. The Oyster case, patented in 1926, was the world's first water-resistant wristwatch case. The Perpetual rotor, introduced in 1931, was the first self-winding mechanism to use a bidirectional rotor that wound the mainspring efficiently enough to eliminate the need for manual winding entirely. When these two technologies were combined into a single reference, the result was a watch that made every competing design look like a product of the previous era.

The Oyster Perpetual has functioned as both a technical baseline and a design statement throughout Rolex's history. In the decades when the brand's energy was directed toward professional models with additional complications, the Oyster Perpetual remained in production as the purest version of the Rolex proposition: a round case, a clean dial with no date window or additional complications, and a movement that required no intervention from its owner. This restraint became its defining virtue, and the reference attracted collectors who had grown tired of watches that asked to be noticed.

For collectors focused on the vintage market, the Oyster Perpetual offers one of the broadest ranges of dial configurations in the Rolex catalog. The sunburst dials in unusual colors — blue, green, coral, and tropical variants — produced during the 1960s and 1970s have attracted serious collector interest as the market has matured. These examples offer a level of visual character that the more prominent sport references rarely match, in a package that is understated and wearable in any context.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
