1993 Rolex 16233 - Two Tone Jubilee, Lemon Roman Dial

Trade In

It's instantly recognizable for a reason.

This is what comes to mind when I think Datejust. Champagne Roman dial, fluted yellow gold bezel, and a Jubilee bracelet. It is the classic two tone formula Rolex refined over decades, and by the early 1990s it was fully dialed in. This line has maintained a prominent, steadfast position in the Rolex lineup for most of its history, and for good reason.

Why this configuration matters

The Roman numeral champagne dial gives this reference more class than the standard stick or baton layouts. It pairs naturally with the warmth of the yellow gold bezel.

The Jubilee bracelet is part of the appeal here. This example is fitted with a more modern style Jubilee, which gives it a tighter feel on the wrist while keeping the classic look intact. That combination makes it easier to wear day to day.

What you need to know before wearing it

Condition is good overall. The case is clean and well preserved. The dial and crystal are both in great condition. The bracelet is in good condition and wears comfortably. The clasp shows normal wear but remains functional and appropriate. The movement is running well with strong amplitude and low beat error after passing by our test bench.

Why this watch still makes sense

This is a Datejust you can actually wear without thinking about it. Familiar, versatile, and easy to live with.

It works as a daily watch, a first Rolex, or a reliable classic to keep in rotation. With no explanation required, this DJ is a solid example of one of Rolex’s most enduring designs.

Every watch we offer has been authenticated and mechanically looked over to ensure immediate usability.

Bracelet extension, cutting, or sizing is available upon request through our professional in-house jewelers.

History

The Importance of the Rolex Datejust 36mm:

The Datejust 36mm is a classic, iconic piece in Rolex's lineup. When it was first released in 1945, it featured a 36mm case size, which was considered relatively large at the time for a men's watch (the average men's watch size in the 1940s was closer to 34mm). Over time, the 36mm case became a standard, loved for its elegant yet substantial presence on the wrist.

The Datejust 36mm was particularly important for several reasons:

  • Innovation in Functionality: As the first automatic wristwatch with a date function that changes at midnight, the Datejust was a revolutionary concept in watchmaking. The Cyclops lens (introduced in the 1950s), a magnifying lens on the crystal over the date, further enhanced its functionality, making the date easier to read.
  • Timeless Design: The 36mm case is often considered the perfect balance between classic and modern. Its size is versatile, suited for both men and women, and it carries an enduring, timeless aesthetic that continues to appeal to watch enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
  • Symbol of Prestige and Durability: Like other Rolex models, the Datejust is renowned for its robustness, precision, and luxury craftsmanship. It has been worn by celebrities, dignitaries, and influential figures, cementing its place as a symbol of success, refinement, and achievement.

The Rolex Datejust 36mm continues to be a staple in the Rolex collection, beloved for its impeccable craftsmanship, innovative features, and timeless design. Whether you're looking for a watch for daily wear or a piece to mark a significant milestone, the Datejust 36mm remains one of the most sought-after and respected timepieces in the world.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
