2010 Rolex Datejust II 116334 - Saudi Khanjar Engraving, Blue Dial

The caseback is the story

At a glance, this is a familiar Datejust II. Blue Roman dial, fluted white gold bezel, Oyster bracelet. Then you turn it over. The Saudi Khanjar engraving on the caseback immediately changes the conversation. These were not decorative add ons. They were issued pieces, tied to a specific market and moment, and they were never produced in large numbers.

This engraving tells you exactly what kind of watch this was. Owned and kept, not stored away.

Why this configuration matters

The Datejust II already sits in a narrower lane than the standard 36mm Datejust. At 41mm, it has more presence and a more modern stance, while still keeping the classic Rolex layout intact. The blue Roman dial adds weight and formality, and the white gold fluted bezel keeps it sharp rather than flashy.

The Saudi Khanjar caseback is what elevates it. These engravings were applied to watches destined for the Saudi market and are actively collected for their provenance. These pieces rarely leave the original owners in Saudi Arabia. This one clearly saw use, which is exactly what you want to see. It's clear the piece was loved by it's original owner.

What you need to know before wearing it

The watch runs very well with strong amplitude and low beat error after passing by our test bench. The dial and crystal are perfect. The bracelet is in good condition and wears comfortably. The caseback engraving shows wear, and the bezel shows light wear as well. This watch is a great daily driver.

Why this watch still works

This is not a safe queen Datejust II. It is a watch with character and provenance. The engraving adds a layer of history that standard examples simply do not have.

It works for someone who wants a modern sized Datejust with something extra beneath the surface. Familiar from the front, meaningful once you look closer. A watch that was clearly owned with intention and is ready to keep being worn.

Every watch we offer has been authenticated and mechanically looked over to ensure immediate usability.

Bracelet extension, cutting, or sizing is available upon request through our professional in-house jewelers.

History

The Datejust debuted in 1945 as Rolex’s 40th‑anniversary timepiece.  It combined the brand’s major innovations — a waterproof Oyster case, self‑winding Perpetual rotor and chronometer‑certified movement — and added a new feature: a date window that automatically advanced at midnight.  This simple, yet practical display marked the first time a wristwatch offered a self‑winding movement with a date indication in a dial aperture.  The watch was launched on the Jubilee bracelet, designed for comfort and flexibility, and its fluted bezel underscored its dressier appeal.Rolex continued to refine the Datejust after its launch.  In 1953 the company added a magnifying Cyclops lens over the date to improve legibility.  The mid‑century models maintained the original 36 mm case size and time‑only simplicity while introducing new dial colours and precious metal options.  The model eventually expanded into smaller and larger sizes and, in 1957, the Lady‑Datejust provided the same functionality in a watch designed for women.Through its long production run the Datejust has remained a cornerstone of the Rolex line because it blends practicality with versatile styling.  Its combination of automatic winding, chronometer accuracy and instantaneous date change serves everyday needs without excess ornamentation.  The enduring form, an Oyster case with screw‑down crown and bracelet — resists moisture and dust.  Collectors appreciate early Datejusts for their historical significance and the way later iterations carry forward the original design language.  Even today the Datejust remains a reference point for a classic, reliable wristwatch.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
