2010 Rolex Daytona 116519 - White Gold Sodalite Dial

Details

The Scarcity Of Natural Stone

The Daytona is the most analyzed watch in the world, yet certain factory configurations remain virtually unseen. This Daytona features a factory Sodalite dial, a deep blue mineral that provides a completely unique marbling and texture for every watch produced. While most stone-dial Daytonas from this era were fitted with diamond indices, this execution notably does not, showing some restraint while simultaneously being much rarer for that very reason. It is an aggressive, high-spec watch that trades traditional sports aesthetics for extreme material rarity.

A Top Tier Deviation

Sodalite is a rarely used material in the Rolex catalog, and finding it in a Daytona without the typical jewelry accents makes this one of the more elusive modern chronographs. The 116519 was designed as the luxury alternative to the steel professional models, utilizing an 18k white gold case to provide a massive physical presence while maintaining a monochromatic look. This configuration is for the collector who has already owned the standard versions and is looking for a piece that sits at the very top of the hierarchy. It is a factory-original oddity that challenges the standard design language of the model.

Flawless Stone And Complete Provenance

The condition is very good throughout. The 18k white gold case remains sharp with well-defined lines and clear hallmarks. Critically, the sodalite dial is in perfect condition and shows no cracks or hairlines, which is the primary concern for any stone-dial Rolex. The watch is fitted to its original leather strap with the correct 18k white gold clasp. This example is accompanied by its original papers and a service card, offering a level of provenance that is rare for a watch of this caliber. After passing our test bench, the automatic movement is running strong.

The Definitive Power Piece

This watch works because it is unapologetically loud without relying on the usual tropes of yellow gold or gems. It relies on the inherent rarity of the earth itself to make its point. It carries the weight of a solid gold Rolex and the visual impact of a custom piece, all while remaining 100% factory original. For the buyer who wants the most visually impactful and scarce version of the white gold Daytona, this sodalite execution is the correct choice. It is a historically significant configuration that is genuinely hard to replace.

Custom Strap creation or sourcing is available with the purchase of this watch.

History

The Cosmograph Daytona — named for the Daytona International Speedway — arrived in 1963 as Rolex's answer to the demands of motorsport timing. A tachymeter scale on the bezel, three sub-dials for elapsed-time counting, and a manual-wind movement built for reliability under conditions that would rattle a lesser watch.

The Daytona spent its early years as a slow seller, overshadowed by the sport watches of the era. What changed was time: the manual-wind references — 6239, 6241, 6262, 6265 — became icons in hindsight, and the transition to the Zenith El Primero-based automatic movement in 1988 (reference 16520) marked a new chapter. The 16523 in two-tone yellow gold and the 116519 in 18-karat white gold represent the range we carry.

Few watches have reversed their commercial trajectory as dramatically as the Daytona. A watch that once sat in display cases unsold is now among the most requested references in all of horology.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
