Audemars Piguet Classique 14894BA – 18K Yellow Gold White Dial

Trade In

Quiet gold, serious watchmaking.

This Audemars Piguet Classique Ref. 14894BA comes from a period when AP was still producing deeply traditional gold watches alongside its more experimental designs. It’s calm, precise, and proportion-first, a reminder that AP’s reputation wasn’t built on sport models alone.

Why this reference makes sense

The appeal here is balance. The yellow gold case is clean and well scaled, the white dial is restrained and legible, and nothing is fighting for attention. It’s the kind of watch that wears naturally and looks right in almost any setting without needing to announce itself.

The manual-wind movement keeps the profile slim and reinforces the traditional feel. Paired with its original strap and original Audemars Piguet buckle, the watch presents exactly as it was intended.

An honest well preserved piece

Condition is strong throughout. The case is in excellent shape, the dial remains clean, and the original buckle shows only light, appropriate wear. The strap is original, and the overall presentation feels cohesive and well kept.

The presence of original papers adds another layer of confidence, especially for a reference where originality and completeness matter.

A quiet AP that still carries weight (literally)

This isn’t a novelty and it isn’t chasing attention. It’s a composed, traditional Audemars Piguet that rewards proportion and material over complication.

For someone who appreciates the calmer, more deliberate side of AP and wants something that doesn’t try too hard, This Ref. 14894BA fits naturally.

History

Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, deep in Switzerland’s Vallée de Joux. From the start, it was a specialist maker. Small production, high difficulty, and an emphasis on movements that other brands often avoided because they were too complex or time-consuming.

For decades, Audemars Piguet built its reputation quietly by producing complicated watches such as perpetual calendars, chronographs, and ultra-thin movements. Many were made for other elite houses as well as under its own name. The brand never chased volume and never simplified its work to scale faster.

In 1972, AP changed watchmaking history with the Royal Oak. A stainless steel luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet, exposed screws, and a price that rivaled gold watches. It was controversial at launch and became one of the most influential designs ever made, reshaping how people thought about high-end watches.

Today, vintage Audemars Piguet pieces show both sides of the brand. The boldness of the Royal Oak era and the restraint of earlier dress watches. Across both, the constant is execution. Thin cases, sharp finishing, and designs that were confident enough to ignore trends until the rest of the market caught up.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
