Baume & Mercier - Dual Time

Details

The Unusual Traveler’s Choice

The Baume & Mercier reference 32000 is a distinctive relic of the 1980s that prioritizes utility through a unique visual lens. This dual-time execution features two independent manual-wind movements, allowing for the tracking of two time zones simultaneously. Housed in an 18k yellow gold "TV-style" case, the design is defined by its horizontal presence and rounded corners. It is a configuration that avoids the clutter of traditional GMT hands or subdial complications, opting instead for a symmetrical, twin-dial layout that is as practical as it is rare.

A Study In Tone And Symmetry

The champagne dial is contrasted by two grey subdials, creating a balanced and legible aesthetic. This "panda" variation on a dress watch is highly unusual for the era and gives the piece fun contrast and design versus the buttoned-up case material. We have an very similar model with the dial colors swapped if you are interested.  At 33x34mm, the case offers a substantial footprint that feels larger than a standard round dress watch, a key consideration for why the TV style case is so beloved in vintage circles. It is a watch for the traveler or collector who appreciates the era of experimentation in watchmaking.

Honest Gold And Fresh Crystal

The 18k yellow gold case is in very good condition, showing honest wear consistent with its age without any significant dings or softening of the case lines. The champagne dial remains clean, with the grey subdials providing a sharp, unaged contrast. A new crystal has been installed to ensure total clarity, and the watch is paired with its original signed Baume & Mercier gold buckle on a leather strap. Mechanically, both independent movements are running strong after passing our test bench and function as intended.

A Double Movement Statement

This is a watch for someone who wants the prestige of solid 18k gold in a form factor that no one else in the room will be wearing. It represents a period when Baume & Mercier was at its most creative, blending high-end materials with unconventional complications. It remains a sharp, conversational piece that works perfectly today as a unique travel companion or a standout daily dress watch.

History

Baume & Mercier traces its origins to 1830 in Switzerland, making it one of the older names in watchmaking. Part of the Richemont group since the late 1980s, the brand produced elegant dress watches throughout the 1970s through 1990s in 18-karat gold — pieces like the TV Integrated Dress, the Tiffany-double-stamped examples, and the Shogun — that represent a style of refined Swiss watchmaking that has largely disappeared from current production. Our vintage examples in yellow and rose gold are understated in the way that genuinely well-made things tend to be.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
