Cartier Santos Carree 2960 - Stainless Steel White Roman Dial

Details
A Design That Defined The Wristwatch
The Cartier Santos is not just another watch, it is widely considered the first purpose-built wristwatch in history. Created in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, its design was a direct solution to a functional problem. This reference 2960 from the 1980s is a direct descendant of that original concept, updated for the integrated bracelet era that dominated luxury watchmaking at the time. The iconic square case and exposed bezel screws remain, anchoring this piece to one of the most important stories in horology.
The Pure Steel Automatic
This example is the all-steel execution, which gives the Santos a clean, utilitarian feel that nods to its tool watch origins. While two-tone models from this era are common, the monochromatic steel version is a more subtle and versatile statement. The 2960 reference is significant for its automatic movement, offering mechanical substance and daily convenience over the quartz models produced alongside it. Its 29mm case wears larger than the number suggests, a quality of square watches that gives it a distinct and comfortable presence on the wrist.
Honest Wear On A Classic Form
This Santos is in good overall condition. The steel case is unpolished, showing wear that is consistent and honest for a watch of its age. The classic white Roman numeral dial is perfect, and the crystal is free of any marks. It presents as a well-preserved and authentic example of a foundational Cartier reference. As with every watch we offer, this piece has been verified as mechanically sound and is ready to wear.
A Foundational Piece Of Watch History
This is the right watch for someone who values design and history. The Santos is a pillar of watchmaking, and this 1980s execution is arguably its most recognizable modern form. It works as a primary watch, capable of handling any situation without ever feeling out of place. It is a confident choice that communicates an understanding of where the modern wristwatch began, and it remains one of the most enduring designs ever created.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
