Corum Rolls Royce - 18K White Gold

Details

A striking marriage of haute horology and classic motoring, this ultra-rare vintage Corum “Spirit of Ecstasy” Ref. 55595 is a standout collector’s piece from the 1980s. Fashioned in solid 18K white gold and measuring 29mm x 25mm, the case and dial are designed to mirror the iconic grille of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, complete with a sculpted Spirit of Ecstasy motif that captures the essence of refined automotive luxury.

Out of approximately 500 pieces ever produced, only 200–250 examples were made in white gold, making this variant particularly scarce and sought after among collectors and Rolls-Royce aficionados alike. This piece retains its original Corum-signed buckle and is fitted with a sleek custom black lizard strap that complements the watch’s Art Deco-inspired silhouette.

The watch houses a manual-wind movement that is running well, and remains in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, with the dial, case, movement, and buckle all in original, untouched form. The louvered dial and unique case shape aren’t just a design flourish—they’re a bold, unmistakable statement of taste and connoisseurship.

Whether you're a seasoned collector, a vintage car enthusiast, or simply in search of a watch that guarantees conversation, this piece bridges two worlds—watchmaking and automotive design—in one rare and luxurious expression. It's not just a timepiece, but a functional sculpture, representing an era when Corum pushed the boundaries of creative watchmaking.

Now available exclusively at our flagship New York City boutique or on our website. Don’t miss the chance to own this extremely rare piece of wearable history.

History

Corum was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1955 by watchmakers Gaston Ries and his nephew René Bannwart, who sought to push the limits of traditional Swiss watchmaking through bold design and technical ingenuity. From the very beginning, Corum distinguished itself by creating timepieces that were equal parts avant-garde and horologically refined—often blending the worlds of fine art, culture, and mechanical innovation.

The name “Corum” derives from the Latin word quorum, meaning “the minimum number of people needed to make a decision”—a nod to the brand’s desire to challenge norms and innovate decisively.

Corum rose to fame quickly with the release of the “Chinese Hat” watch in 1958, followed by the Admiral’s Cup in 1960—a nautical-inspired watch that became one of its signature lines. But it was Corum’s limited edition, concept-driven creations that truly captured attention on the global stage.

Among these was the now-iconic Coin Watch, which incorporated genuine gold and silver coins as dials, and the Rolls-Royce “Spirit of Ecstasy” watch, launched in the 1970s and 1980s in partnership with the luxury carmaker. That model became one of the first examples of a watch made explicitly for automobile enthusiasts, with a design inspired by the front grille of the Rolls-Royce Phantom and a literal miniature Spirit of Ecstasy sculpture atop the dial.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Corum continued to develop distinctive watches, including the Golden Bridge—a timepiece with a fully visible baguette movement housed in a transparent case—and the Bubble, a contemporary, oversized design with a domed crystal that became a cult favorite in the early 2000s.

Corum changed ownership in 2000 and was acquired in 2013 by China Haidian Group (now Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Group), which also owns brands like Eterna. Despite changes in leadership, Corum has remained loyal to its original ethos: daring design, impeccable Swiss craftsmanship, and limited production runs that favor artistry and exclusivity over mass appeal.

Today, Corum watches—particularly their vintage and limited-edition models—are prized by collectors for their originality, quality, and ability to straddle the line between horological rarity and visual storytelling.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
