Franck Muller Master Banker 3802 MB HV - 18K Yellow Gold, Triple Time Zone

A Complication For The Truly Global

The Master Banker was a direct statement of mechanical ambition from Franck Muller. During an era when most manufactures were content with a simple GMT hand, Muller developed a complication that could track three distinct time zones at once, each with its own hour and minute display. This was not a novelty. It was a purpose-built instrument designed for financiers and executives who needed to monitor markets in London, New York, and Tokyo simultaneously. It remains one of the most intuitive and genuinely useful multi-time zone movements ever created.

Yellow Gold And Classic Form

This example houses the complex movement within a classic, round case crafted from solid 18K yellow gold. While many associate the brand with the Cintrée Curvex shape, this more traditional silhouette gives the watch a timeless, understated presence. The white dial features the brand's signature design language that defined its most creative period. The combination of a highly technical complication inside a classically styled gold case is what gives this piece its enduring appeal.

A Well Maintained Example

The watch is in overall good condition. 18K yellow gold case is in good condition and appears unpolished, showing honest signs of wear consistent with a watch from this period. The white dial is clean and well-preserved. The watch is fitted on a leather strap that complements the classic aesthetic of the gold case. As with every watch we offer, this piece has been verified as mechanically sound and is ready to wear.

Independent Spirit, Practical Power

This is a watch for someone who appreciates the height of independent watchmaking from the 1990s and 2000s. The Master Banker offers a level of mechanical substance that few other brands were attempting at the time, all in a package that is both elegant and highly functional. It represents a moment when creativity and technical skill were paramount, resulting in a watch that is far more interesting than a standard dress piece.

History

Franck Muller established his manufacture in Genthod, Geneva in 1991 after building a reputation as one of the most technically gifted independent watchmakers of his generation. His early work focused on complications that the major houses had either abandoned or never attempted — the Tourbillon, the Minute Repeater, and eventually the combination of both in a single wristwatch. The brand's early output was defined by an approach that prioritized mechanical ambition over conservative design, and the Cintrée Curvex case shape that became the brand's signature was itself a technical statement: curving a mechanical movement to follow the contour of the wrist was a manufacturing challenge that most competitors chose to avoid entirely.

The 1990s and early 2000s represented the peak of Franck Muller's influence on the independent watchmaking landscape. The brand produced an extraordinary range of complications and dial configurations during this period, from the Crazy Hours with its jumping hour markers to the Long Island and the Master Banker with its triple time zone display. The tonneau-shaped cases, the oversized Arabic numerals, and the Art Deco-influenced dial layouts became immediately recognizable and were widely imitated across the industry. The brand operated at the intersection of technical watchmaking and expressive design in a way that no other manufacturer of the era could match.

For collectors, vintage Franck Muller represents a specific moment in watchmaking history when independent manufacture was at its most creative and commercially viable. The earlier references in precious metals with enamel or guilloché dials are the most sought after, as they represent the period when every piece received direct attention from the founder's workshop. Examples with unusual dial treatments or limited edition configurations have appreciated steadily as the collector market has recognized the significance of the brand's contribution to the revival of complicated watchmaking.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
