Jaeger Le Coultre Tank — Glossy Blue Dial

Details

The Story

Here's a vintage Jaeger LeCoultre tank manual wind with a glossy dark blue dial from the 70s. Keeps great time and is fully functional. Measurements include a 25mm case size and 18mm lug width. On a black croc leather strap. Time only. Dauphine hands. Steel stepped case and caseback. Numbers on the caseback: 9118 42, 1398138. The dial ranges from dark blue to black, depending on the light. Glossy finish. Makes a great dress watch for both men and women. Both the dial and crystal are free from any scratches or marks. All parts are original including the crown, dial, and caseback. Both the dial and case are in great cosmetic, untouched condition.

History

Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded in 1833 in the Vallée de Joux, a valley in Switzerland that has been central to precision watchmaking for centuries. The Reverso — introduced in 1931 for polo players who needed to protect their watch crystal during matches — features a case that slides and flips 180 degrees, hiding the crystal behind an Art Deco caseback. It is one of the most enduring watch designs ever created, still in production nearly a century later. Our example, the ref 140.007.1 from the 1990s, is a Chaumet double-stamped piece that adds a layer of Paris retail history to an already significant object.
