Mauboussin - Yellow Gold Skeleton Dial

Details

A rare fusion of horological artistry and high jewelry design, this vintage Mauboussin manual wind dress watch from the 2000s is a statement piece that reflects the bold creative spirit of one of France’s most prestigious jewelers. Crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, it features a skeletonized black dial that reveals the inner workings of the watch through a display of visible movement components and fine finishing, all framed by a sculptural, multi-stepped bezel.

The 34mm case offers strong wrist presence while maintaining an elegant, wearable profile. A clear exhibition case back gives you a second perspective on the manually wound movement, while gold dauphine hands float above the openworked mechanics, balancing modern architectural edge with classical design.

The integrated 18k yellow gold bracelet features a unique finishing and a butterfly clasp, fitting wrists up to 6.75 inches. Its design recalls the classic Breguet Marine in structure and presence, lending the watch a sporty refinement while maintaining a distinctly high-luxury French aesthetic.

All parts are 100% original, including the case, dial, and movement, and the watch is in great cosmetic condition, ready to be worn and admired.

This piece is not just a timekeeper — it's a wearable work of modern design, offering a bold alternative to more traditional skeleton watches. Perfect for collectors of independent or jewelry-house watchmaking, or for those who want a striking, architectural gold watch with real personality and exclusivity.

History

Mauboussin is one of France’s oldest and most storied jewelry houses, with a legacy that spans over 200 years. Founded in 1827 by M. Rocher, the firm began as a small jewelry workshop in Paris. In 1877, Georges Mauboussin—whose name would eventually define the brand—joined the company, and by 1903 he had taken over, giving the maison its enduring identity. Known for its exceptional craftsmanship, Mauboussin quickly gained acclaim for its distinctive Art Deco pieces during the 1920s and 1930s, blending bold geometric designs with vibrant colored gemstones. The house catered to royalty, aristocracy, and global elite, eventually expanding with boutiques in New York and Buenos Aires.

Though primarily a high jewelry brand, Mauboussin also ventured into watchmaking—particularly in the mid-20th century—often producing elegant, limited-run timepieces that fused French aesthetics with Swiss movements. These watches were never mass-produced, contributing to their rarity and desirability today. In the modern era, Mauboussin has remained relevant by offering a range of jewelry and watches that balance heritage design with more accessible price points, while maintaining a presence on Place Vendôme in Paris. As a whole, Mauboussin represents a blend of Parisian elegance, avant-garde artistry, and understated luxury—both in jewelry and in its lesser-known but collectible timepieces.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
