Piaget 9151 – Blue Lapis Dial

Details

An exquisite expression of 1970s haute horlogerie, this vintage Piaget reference 9151 is a rare and elegant timepiece that merges precious materials, bold design, and meticulous craftsmanship. Housed in a 25mm rectangular case crafted from solid 18k white gold, this ultra-slim, manually wound gem is paired with its original integrated white gold mesh bracelet — a hallmark of Piaget’s signature fusion of jewelry and timekeeping.

The highlight is undoubtedly its deep blue lapis lazuli stone dial, punctuated with four brilliant-cut diamond markers and finished with white gold dauphine hands. Each lapis dial is unique, and this one is especially vibrant, with a rich mineral texture that subtly shifts in the light — a stunning contrast against the icy tone of the white gold.

The case, bracelet, and dial are all in unpolished, untouched condition, and the original factory caseback sticker remains intact — a rare detail that speaks to the watch’s careful preservation over the decades. Mechanically, it’s fully functional and keeps excellent time, a testament to Piaget’s refined manual-wind movements of the era.

All parts are 100% original, including the signed crown, dial, movement, and caseback. The integrated white gold mesh bracelet fits wrists up to 7.25 inches, draping like silk and giving the piece its unmistakably luxurious presence.

This watch is more than just a rare vintage Piaget — it’s a wearable work of art, combining a lapis stone dial, diamond indices, and precious metal architecture in a way that remains utterly distinctive today. Perfect for collectors of stone-dial watches, Piaget aficionados, or anyone looking for a uniquely elegant vintage piece with real statement power.

History

Piaget was founded in 1874 by Georges-Édouard Piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland. The company originally started as a workshop specializing in the production of high-quality movements for other watchmakers. Piaget gained a reputation for its excellence in craftsmanship and its ability to create ultra-thin movements, a trademark that would later become one of its signature features.Piaget’s journey as a watchmaker shifted toward producing timepieces with record-breaking movements in luxury hand-crafted precious metal watches, such as the Piaget Polo, Protocol, Emperador, Altiplano, and several other models. They focused on the watch's appearance and innovative movements like the 7P, 9P, 12P, 530P automatic, and some ultra-thin mechanical movements.Piaget is known for its luxury craftsmanship, which means they don't settle for anything less than perfection. Each gold watch is made with precise finishes throughout the case and bracelet. Piaget only created timepieces in precious metals, which meant there was lots of room for error, as these metals are more fragile. They employed the best goldsmiths in the world, who worked around the clock to ensure that every watch was made perfectly. Since each Piaget is made by hand, almost every one is unique in its own way—whether it’s a malachite stone dial cut from a single stone or a bracelet with a Florentine finish that differs slightly from another. Many watch brands create gold watches with true craftsmanship, but when it comes to Piaget, nothing could top them in terms of quality. Throughout the 1960s to the 1990s, Piaget gained popularity with celebrities and royalty, cementing its status as a symbol of luxury.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
