Piaget Asymmetric - Tiger Eye Dial

Trade In

Piaget when they were taking a radical approach to design

The Asymmetric line sits far outside Piaget’s already unconventional 1970s output. Nothing here is meant to feel balanced in the traditional sense. The case is intentionally offset, the bracelet flows in one direction, and the watch reads more like a design object than a conventional timepiece. It is compact, but the integrated bracelet gives it presence far beyond the measurement.

Why this configuration matters

The tiger eye dial is the entire story. Piaget used stone dials sparingly, and tiger eye was never a forgiving material. Each cut is different, some are quite mundane. This is a particularly strong cut with pronounced striping and depth which adds an extra layer at a glance.

The integrated 18k yellow gold bracelet is just as important. It completes the asymmetrical design and gives the watch its flow. These bracelets are often heavily worn or stretched. This one remains in good to very good shape for its age, which matters more than cosmetic perfection. Manual wind keeps the case slim and preserves the proportions Piaget was chasing with this design.

What you need to know before wearing it

Condition is good overall, but the dial must be understood clearly. The tiger eye dial has visible cracking, starting around seven o’clock and running toward the center, with additional cracking around eight thirty and nine. This is plainly visible and part of the watch’s current state.

The case and crystal are in good condition. The bracelet is in good to very good shape. The movement is running but losing time at approximately minus forty six seconds per day and would benefit from a service.

Why this watch still holds weight

This is a piece you can confidently wear without fear of a large financial loss after one bump. It works for someone who values design history and material rarity over cosmetic perfection. A bold, uncommon Piaget that tells its story honestly and is increasingly difficult to find at all, let alone with this dial.

Every watch we offer has been authenticated and mechanically looked over to ensure immediate usability.

History

Piaget began in 1874 when Georges‑Édouard Piaget started making high‑quality pocket watch movements in La Côte‑aux‑Fées.  His son Timothée expanded the family business in 1911 to produce complete watches, selling them under the Piaget name.  In 1943 the company registered Piaget as a trademark and embarked on a series of technical innovations.  The introduction of the manual‑winding calibre 9P in 1957, only 2 mm thick, established Piaget as a leader in ultra‑thin movements .  Three years later the automatic calibre 12P with a micro‑rotor, at 2.3 mm thick, continued this quest for thinness .  The brand’s motto, “Always do better than necessary,” guided its pursuit of fine craftsmanship and innovation.

Throughout the 1960s Piaget combined watchmaking with jewellery craftsmanship.  The company opened its first boutique in Geneva in 1959 and began creating watches with brightly coloured stone dials and exquisitely woven gold bracelets .  These pieces attracted jet‑set clients and celebrities and established Piaget as a purveyor of glamorous yet technically impressive watches.  Innovations continued with the quartz calibre 7P in 1976 and the introduction of the Polo in 1979, which integrated case and bracelet in solid gold .  Piaget has remained independent within the Richemont Group and continues to explore ultra‑thin watchmaking through collections like the Altiplano.  Collectors value vintage Piaget for the combination of technical finesse and jewellery‑like elegance.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
