Piaget Polo -“Bumble Bee”

Details

We're thrilled to offer one of the rarest and most elusive Piaget designs ever produced: the factory PVD-coated two-tone Piaget Polo Cuff, reference 7131, dating back to the 1980s. Beneath the sleek black coating lies a solid 18k yellow gold construction, combining technical flair with high luxury in a way that only Piaget could execute during this wildly creative era.

This piece is extraordinary because of its original factory PVD finish—a treatment almost never seen on Piaget Polos. Unlike aftermarket modifications, this piece was born with its two-tone black and gold appearance from the Piaget workshop. These were produced in extremely limited numbers, and very few examples have surfaced publicly. The few that remain are mostly tucked away in private collections, making this a true unicorn for collectors.

The signature Polo cuff-style bracelet remains unpolished, preserving its sharp lines and original integrity. There is some honest wear on a few links, as shown in the photos, adding character and confirming its originality. The dial is finished in a matte black with yellow gold horizontal gadroons through the dial and case, and shows some natural aging from it probably sitting in a safe for years. Overall, the watch remains in remarkable unpolished condition, especially considering its age and delicate finish.

The Piaget Polo defined luxury in the 1980s, worn by icons of style and royalty alike. But this rare PVD variation takes it to another level of exclusivity—a bold departure from the classic all-gold aesthetic, blending fashion-forward design with timeless elegance. With its integrated cuff design, rare finish, and period-correct PVD execution, it’s an exceptional piece of horological history.

Finding one of these in the wild is virtually impossible. If you're after something truly different—a sleeper grail from Piaget’s most inventive era—this is it.

Don't miss the opportunity to own a piece that rarely sees the light of day.

History

When Piaget unveiled the Polo in 1979, the watch world was still processing what Audemars Piguet had done in 1972 with the Royal Oak. Piaget's answer was the Polo: an integrated bracelet watch with an ultrathin movement housed in a round case, built entirely in 18-karat gold, and priced accordingly.

The Polo was named for the sport that Yves G. Piaget — grandson of the founder — played and sponsored, and the watch carried his sensibility: sporty enough to wear at the polo grounds, refined enough to wear at the dinner that followed. The integrated bracelet, with its alternating polished and brushed surfaces, is one of the most tactile in the industry.

Reference 7661 (the "Jumbo" Polo in 34mm) and the smaller 861 C 701 are the classic references. Available in yellow and white gold, with onyx, diamond, and solid-colored dials, the Polo represents Piaget at full confidence — a manufactory that had spent decades making the thinnest movements in the world, finally putting them in a watch that matched their ambition.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
