Piaget Polo Zebra 861C701 – 18K Two-Tone Black Dial

Details

Zebra polo with an unusual dial

The Piaget Polo is the undisputed heavyweight champion of 1980s luxury, but while the rectangular models are the most common, the round-case execution offers a completely different geometric energy. This Reference 861C701 is a rare and aggressive study in contrast, featuring a two-tone 18k yellow and white gold construction. The centerpiece is a deep black circular dial that cuts through the gold gadroons, creating a target-like focus that modern Polo revival pieces haven't ever quite captured.

A heavy, seamless cuff

The Polo's genius lies in its refusal to be "just a watch." It was engineered as a single, sculptural unit where the horizontal bars run uninterrupted from the dial through the case and across the entire bracelet. Because this is the two-tone version, the play between the yellow gold bars and the white gold base creates an added visual rhythm. At over 81 grams, it carries a massive physical presence that belies its 23mm diameter.

Preserved and verified

This example is in very good condition, retaining the crisp definition between the brushed and polished surfaces that make the Polo design work. The 18k two-tone bracelet remains tight and integrated, fitting like a second skin. Mechanically, the quartz movement is confirmed to be running strong after passing our test bench.

The aggressive alternative

This is for the collector who wants the prestige of the Polo but wants something a bit more dynamic and rare. The combination of the circular case, the black dial, and the two-tone gold makes this a significantly more modern and versatile choice. It manages to be undeniably Piaget while remaining an outlier in a room full of standard luxury icons.

We offer bracelet extension and cutting by our professional in-house jewelers. Extra links or sizing for smaller wrists are available upon request.

History

When Piaget unveiled the Polo in 1979, the watch world was still processing what Audemars Piguet had done in 1972 with the Royal Oak. Piaget's answer was the Polo: an integrated bracelet watch with an ultrathin movement housed in a round case, built entirely in 18-karat gold, and priced accordingly.

The Polo was named for the sport that Yves G. Piaget — grandson of the founder — played and sponsored, and the watch carried his sensibility: sporty enough to wear at the polo grounds, refined enough to wear at the dinner that followed. The integrated bracelet, with its alternating polished and brushed surfaces, is one of the most tactile in the industry.

Reference 7661 (the "Jumbo" Polo in 34mm) and the smaller 861 C 701 are the classic references. Available in yellow and white gold, with onyx, diamond, and solid-colored dials, the Polo represents Piaget at full confidence — a manufactory that had spent decades making the thinnest movements in the world, finally putting them in a watch that matched their ambition.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
