Piaget Cushion 9741 - Lavender Sunburst Dial

Details

The color does the work

This mid 1970s Piaget Cushion Dress stands out immediately because of the dial. The lavender sunburst tone is uncommon for the reference and shifts subtly depending on light, giving the watch far more presence than a standard silver or champagne execution. It feels deliberate without being loud.

The cushion case keeps things balanced and elegant, letting the color carry the personality.

Why this one matters

Piaget in this era was focused on slim, design-forward dress watches, and this reference fits that philosophy perfectly. The 18k yellow gold case gives warmth, while the lavender dial introduces contrast that you simply do not see often on these models. It is an uncommon combination, especially in strong, original condition.

The gold dauphine hands are a key detail. They catch light cleanly against the dial and reinforce the dress-focused nature of the watch without distracting from the overall layout.

Strong, honest condition

Overall condition is very good. The case appears unpolished and retains its shape well. The dial shows light spotted patina consistent with age, nothing distracting, just natural aging. The manual wind movement is functioning properly with healthy amplitude after passing by our test bench.

The watch is fitted on an aftermarket leather strap, paired with its original Piaget gold buckle.

An uncommon Piaget that holds up

This is not a loud or experimental Piaget. It is a refined cushion case dress watch with an uncommon dial color and clean overall presentation. The combination of lavender sunburst, yellow gold, and gold dauphine hands gives it personality without pushing too far.

For someone looking for a 1970s Piaget that is slightly off the beaten path but still easy to wear, this one makes a strong case.

History

Georges Edouard Piaget founded his manufactory in La Côte-aux-Fées in 1874, and for decades the company's reputation rested on its ability to produce movements of exceptional thinness — calibers that other high houses bought and put in their own watches. When Piaget began producing watches under its own name in the late 1950s and 1960s, it brought that ultra-thin expertise directly to the dial.

The Altiplano is Piaget's flagship ultra-thin collection, a direct expression of that founding expertise. The Grenade is a bold gem-set cocktail watch — all pave diamonds, colored stones, and sculptural bezels — occupying the space between watch and jewel without apology. The Limelight Gala, produced from the 2010s onward, is the modern heir to that cocktail tradition: an 18-karat white gold round case set with diamonds, a slim quartz movement, and a leather strap. All three collections reflect the same dual mastery that Piaget has always commanded: the thinnest movements in the world, in cases worth wearing.
