Rolex Cellini 5112 - Blue Boiler Gauge Dial

Details

A dress Cellini with uncommon depth

This Rolex Cellini from the 1990s sits in a quieter corner of the brand’s catalog, defined by clean proportions and a deliberately elegant presence. The blue sunburst boiler-gauge dial adds structure and visual interest, but it works as part of a broader, well-balanced design rather than standing alone as a novelty.

Why this configuration works

Boiler-gauge dials were produced in far smaller numbers than standard Cellini layouts, and blue executions are especially uncommon. Here, the dial adds depth and focus without introducing complication, keeping the watch legible and calm while subtly guiding the eye.

Paired with the yellow gold case, the overall effect feels deliberate and cohesive, a combination that leans into elegance rather than spectacle.

Well preserved and complete

Condition throughout is excellent. The dial and crystal are clean and free from marks, the case presents in strong cosmetic shape, and the watch retains its original black leather strap with signed gold buckle.

The manual-wind movement is fully functional and keeping great time. All components are original, including the signed Rolex crown, dial, movement, and caseback.

A refined Cellini with nuance

This isn’t a loud or attention-seeking Rolex. It’s a Cellini for someone who appreciates proportion, subtle design choices, and configurations that don’t surface often.

Elegant, uncommon, and easy to live with, it offers a quietly distinctive take on Rolex’s dress-watch side, one that rewards looking twice rather than shouting for attention.

History

The Cellini line — named after Renaissance goldsmith and sculptor Benvenuto Cellini — is Rolex's dress watch offering, and it operates on entirely different logic than the sport and tool watches the brand is famous for. No date window, no rotating bezel, no crown guards. Just case, dial, and movement.

Introduced in the late 1960s, Cellini watches are exclusively 18-karat gold and are powered by manual-wind movements. The collection covers an extraordinary range of case shapes across its history: round, oval, rectangular, cushion, asymmetric, and the distinctive Cestello oval — all sharing a commitment to slim proportions and refined finishing that stands apart from anything else in the Rolex catalog.

References span from the early 3800-series oval cases of the late 1960s and early 1970s through the square 4233 Danaos of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Dials range from brushed champagne and silver sunburst to red and blue vignette, white Arabic, and foil patterns that no longer exist in current production. For collectors who want Rolex craftsmanship without the sport-watch aesthetic, Cellini is the answer — and it remains one of the most underappreciated categories in the entire vintage Rolex universe.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
