Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis in London. In 1908, Wilsdorf registered the Rolex brand name and soon after moved the company to Geneva, Switzerland, where it has remained ever since.

The Rolex Cellini line was officially introduced in the mid-1960s as a dedicated dress watch collection, a deliberate departure from Rolex's tool watch legacy — Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, etc.
