1976 Rolex Cellini – Champagne Dial

The Geometric Side Of Rolex Elegance

While the Oyster case defines Rolex’s utility, the Cellini line is where the brand explores pure formal aesthetics. The 3811, dating to 1974, is a quintessential mid-century dress watch, utilizing a 23mm square case that offers a sharp, geometric alternative to the standard rounded silhouette. Executed in 18k yellow gold, it carries the warmth and prestige of a precious metal Rolex while maintaining a slim, low profile that can only be achieved with a manual-wind movement.

Sunburst Depth And Organic Patina

The champagne sunburst dial is the perfect tonal match for the 18k gold case, creating a monochromatic look that radiates with light. On this specific example, the indices have developed a subtle, organic patina over the years that turned them a darker, bronzed character that contrasts beautifully against the radiant champagne dial. It is a refined, "if you know, you know" detail that highlights the piece's vintage authenticity.

Excellent Form And Mechanical Health

This Cellini is in very good condition, with the 18k gold case retaining its sharp edges and proper proportions. The dial and crystal are clean, free of the scratches or environmental damage often seen in non-Oyster vintage pieces. It is currently mounted on a fresh leather strap with an aftermarket buckle, allowing the gold case to take center stage. Mechanically, the manual-wind movement is running exceptionally after passing by our test bench, proving that Rolex’s dress-tier engineering is as durable as its sport-tier counterparts.

A Sophisticated, Minimalist Statement

This is the choice for the collector who values discretion and historical design. The 23mm square proportions make it a highly versatile unisex piece, wearing with a presence that feels more like a piece of high-end jewelry than a bulky timepiece. It is an honest, well-preserved example of a golden era for Rolex, offering a level of sophistication that stays quietly under the radar.

History

The Cellini line — named after Renaissance goldsmith and sculptor Benvenuto Cellini — is Rolex's dress watch offering, and it operates on entirely different logic than the sport and tool watches the brand is famous for. No date window, no rotating bezel, no crown guards. Just case, dial, and movement.

Introduced in the late 1960s, Cellini watches are exclusively 18-karat gold and are powered by manual-wind movements. The collection covers an extraordinary range of case shapes across its history: round, oval, rectangular, cushion, asymmetric, and the distinctive Cestello oval — all sharing a commitment to slim proportions and refined finishing that stands apart from anything else in the Rolex catalog.

References span from the early 3800-series oval cases of the late 1960s and early 1970s through the square 4233 Danaos of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Dials range from brushed champagne and silver sunburst to red and blue vignette, white Arabic, and foil patterns that no longer exist in current production. For collectors who want Rolex craftsmanship without the sport-watch aesthetic, Cellini is the answer — and it remains one of the most underappreciated categories in the entire vintage Rolex universe.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
