A Brief History of Rolex:

Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis in London. The company originally specialized in the creation of high-quality, precision wristwatches, with the goal of making watches more reliable, durable, and accurate. In 1908, Wilsdorf registered the Rolex brand name and soon after moved the company to Geneva, Switzerland, where it has remained ever since.

Origins of the Rolex Cellini Line

The Rolex Cellini line was officially introduced in the mid-1960s as a dedicated dress watch collection, a deliberate departure from Rolex's tool watch legacy — Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, etc.

• First, Rolex Cellinis started appearing around 1964-1968, depending on the reference.
• Named after Benvenuto Cellini, a renowned 16th-century Italian goldsmith, sculptor, and artist, famous for his refinement and artistry, the name alone sets the tone: this is Rolex’s ode to elegance.

 What Makes the Cellini Line Special?

1. Artistry Over Utility

• The Cellini line was Rolex saying, “We can do elegance, too.”
• No rotating bezels, no water resistance needed — just slim profiles, precious metals, and fine details.
