A Balanced Luxury Classic

The Rolex Datejust 16233 is the definitive execution of the world’s most recognizable luxury watch. While the steel and gold configuration is a staple, this example is elevated by the factory champagne dial set with diamond hour markers. The 16233 transitioned the model into the modern era with the introduction of the sapphire crystal and the caliber 3135 movement, offering a level of durability and precision that remains the industry benchmark. It is a watch that carries significant visual weight without feeling dated.

A Cohesive Two Tone Aesthetic

The combination of 18k yellow gold and stainless steel creates a high-contrast look that defines the Datejust’s legacy. This specific configuration with the diamond-set dial pushes the watch into a more formal category while retaining the versatility of the Jubilee bracelet. It is an all-matching example that feels complete, representing the era of Rolex manufacturing where build quality and luxury finishes met in a perfectly balanced 36mm case.

Strong Case And Clean Components

The case and 18k gold fluted bezel are in great shape, showing sharp lines and clear definition. The champagne dial is excellent, with the factory diamond settings remaining bright and secure. The two-tone Jubilee bracelet stretch appropriate for age, but is still in good shape overall and clearly unpolished. Mechanically, the watch is running strong after passing our test bench.

The Ultimate Daily Statement

This is a watch for someone who wants the most iconic version of the Datejust with an added layer of prestige. It works as well with a suit as it does in a casual setting, offering a level of recognition that few other timepieces can claim. It is a reliable, classic Rolex that feels substantial and looks exactly how a luxury watch should.

History

The Datejust debuted in 1945 as Rolex’s 40th‑anniversary timepiece.  It combined the brand’s major innovations — a waterproof Oyster case, self‑winding Perpetual rotor and chronometer‑certified movement — and added a new feature: a date window that automatically advanced at midnight.  This simple, yet practical display marked the first time a wristwatch offered a self‑winding movement with a date indication in a dial aperture.  The watch was launched on the Jubilee bracelet, designed for comfort and flexibility, and its fluted bezel underscored its dressier appeal.Rolex continued to refine the Datejust after its launch.  In 1953 the company added a magnifying Cyclops lens over the date to improve legibility.  The mid‑century models maintained the original 36 mm case size and time‑only simplicity while introducing new dial colours and precious metal options.  The model eventually expanded into smaller and larger sizes and, in 1957, the Lady‑Datejust provided the same functionality in a watch designed for women.Through its long production run the Datejust has remained a cornerstone of the Rolex line because it blends practicality with versatile styling.  Its combination of automatic winding, chronometer accuracy and instantaneous date change serves everyday needs without excess ornamentation.  The enduring form, an Oyster case with screw‑down crown and bracelet — resists moisture and dust.  Collectors appreciate early Datejusts for their historical significance and the way later iterations carry forward the original design language.  Even today the Datejust remains a reference point for a classic, reliable wristwatch.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
