1993 Rolex Datejust 16233 - Diamond Dial

The Definitive Two Tone Execution

The 16233 represents the era where the Datejust became a truly modern daily wearer. By combining the classic 36mm proportions with a sapphire crystal and the quickset automatic movement, Rolex created a watch that retains its vintage charm while offering complete technical reliability. The champagne dial serves as the perfect tonal match for the 18k yellow gold fluted bezel, creating the most recognizable silhouette in the history of the brand.

Factory Diamond Sophistication

The addition of factory diamond hour markers shifts this watch into a different category of luxury. While a standard stick dial is utilitarian, the stones provide a level of light play and depth that makes the dial feel far more substantial. It is an intentional configuration that prioritizes presence. Because the diamonds are factory set, the proportions and settings are exact, maintaining the clean lines of the champagne face without the visual clutter of aftermarket modifications.

Sharp Case And Original Integrity

This example is in great overall condition and maintains all of its original matching components. The case is sharp and the 18k yellow gold fluted bezel remains crisp and well defined. The two tone Jubilee bracelet shows well and both the champagne dial and sapphire crystal are clean and free of marks. After passing through our test bench, the automatic movement is running strong and is ready for regular use. It is a well maintained example that shows no signs of neglect.

A Timeless piece ready for its' next caretaker

This is the watch for the person who wants the quintessential Rolex experience. The two tone Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet is a design that has transcended trends and remains just as relevant today as it was in 1993. It carries a specific level of prestige and versatility, working just as well in a professional setting as it does in a casual one. The diamond dial adds just enough elevation to make it feel special without sacrificing its ability to be a daily driver.

History

The Datejust debuted in 1945 as Rolex’s 40th‑anniversary timepiece.  It combined the brand’s major innovations — a waterproof Oyster case, self‑winding Perpetual rotor and chronometer‑certified movement — and added a new feature: a date window that automatically advanced at midnight.  This simple, yet practical display marked the first time a wristwatch offered a self‑winding movement with a date indication in a dial aperture.  The watch was launched on the Jubilee bracelet, designed for comfort and flexibility, and its fluted bezel underscored its dressier appeal.Rolex continued to refine the Datejust after its launch.  In 1953 the company added a magnifying Cyclops lens over the date to improve legibility.  The mid‑century models maintained the original 36 mm case size and time‑only simplicity while introducing new dial colours and precious metal options.  The model eventually expanded into smaller and larger sizes and, in 1957, the Lady‑Datejust provided the same functionality in a watch designed for women.Through its long production run the Datejust has remained a cornerstone of the Rolex line because it blends practicality with versatile styling.  Its combination of automatic winding, chronometer accuracy and instantaneous date change serves everyday needs without excess ornamentation.  The enduring form, an Oyster case with screw‑down crown and bracelet — resists moisture and dust.  Collectors appreciate early Datejusts for their historical significance and the way later iterations carry forward the original design language.  Even today the Datejust remains a reference point for a classic, reliable wristwatch.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
