Rolex King Midas - 18K Yellow Gold

We’re proud to offer this rare and increasingly sought-after Rolex Cellini King Midas Ref. 4315, an unapologetically bold design in solid 18k yellow gold with its iconic asymmetrical case, steeped in vintage character and preserved in completely original, unpolished condition. With a 4.2 million serial, this piece dates to circa 1976, capturing a unique period when Rolex pushed far beyond its usual playbook of sport and dress watches.

What sets this piece apart is not just its sculptural design but the authenticity of its wear — scratches across the case and bracelet reflect a life lived with a long life of wear ahead. The subtle patina on the dial adds warmth and charm to this 20th-century statement piece. The watch remains entirely original, including the distinctive hefty integrated bracelet, and retains the soul and integrity that collectors value so highly.

The King Midas line is legendary for several reasons:

  • It was designed by Gérald Genta, the same mind behind the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus.

  • At launch, it was the heaviest gold watch in the world.

  • The watch draws direct design inspiration from ancient Greek architecture, specifically the Temple of Poseidon.

  • Only about 800 pieces of the 4315 reference were made, making it incredibly rare.

The watch’s asymmetrical case measures 27mm at its narrowest and 32mm at its widest, but wears much larger and more commanding on the wrist due to its bold form and thick gold construction. The unique side crown placement on the left adds to the visual intrigue, while the substantial weight makes it feel like a piece of wearable sculpture.

Why are collectors chasing these now?
In recent years, the King Midas line has enjoyed a serious resurgence among connoisseurs and tastemakers alike. From its association with Genta to its radical departure from Rolex norms, the Midas has gone from an under-the-radar curiosity to a coveted icon of 1970s avant-garde watch design. Celebrities like Elvis Presley famously wore one, and as appreciation grows for Rolex’s lesser-known but high-design Cellini pieces, the King Midas sits at the top of that hierarchy.

This particular example, with its untouched condition, full originality, and genuine vintage presence, is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Rolex history that’s as daring as it is collectible.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
