Rolex King Midas - Onyx & Diamond Dial

An icon among icons, this ultra-rare vintage Rolex King Midas Ref. 4316 is one of the Midas lineage's most elusive and luxurious expressions. Crafted entirely in 18k white gold, this version breaks from the more commonly seen asymmetrical models by offering a clean, bold square case design.

What truly elevates this piece into collector-grade territory is its flawless factory onyx dial, accented with brilliant-cut diamonds surrounding the onyx dial. Most of the Rolex King Midas's were created in the traditional white gold with a silver dial or yellow gold with a champagne dial to give it that integrated brick of gold look. However, out of the handful of them created, there were stone dials put into a few of them. This is one of the few and in unpolished and mint condition, looking practically brand new.

The Ref. 4316 is one of the final iterations of the King Midas line before its absorption into the Cellini collection. It features a manual-wind movement, and going off the path of the asymmetrical case with the razor crown to the right side more traditional crown. The bracelet, fully integrated with crisp geometry and weighty presence, maintains the Midas identity—monolithic, sculptural, and unapologetically bold.

The King Midas line was produced in small numbers; most examples in yellow gold and very few in white gold are still floating around. A large number of these were melted over the years, as most people never understood the true value of this historical masterpiece by Rolex. The amount of these that have been melted over the years since the 70s is insane, since they were so heavy and used to be worth gold melt value before King Midas had the spotlight it deserved in the past few years.

Finding a white gold King Midas is near impossible, now to find one in unpolished condition is unseen of, and to go a step beyond everything, finding one with an onyx stone dial is probably impossible. For serious collectors, this watch represents not only a horological artifact but also a work of wearable art, blending Rolex's high-jewelry ambitions with mid-century modern design cues.

A museum-worthy example of Rolex’s experimental golden era—this Rolex King Midas 4316 is now available in the shop.

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
