1969 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1500 - Lavender Dial

Details

Lavender by design, rarely seen

This Rolex Oyster Perpetual from 1969 stands out immediately for its factory lavender dial — a color Rolex produced in very limited numbers and one that rarely surfaces today. Subtle, soft, and unmistakably period-correct, it offers a completely different presence than the silver, black, or blue dials most people associate with this reference.

It’s understated at first glance, but unmistakable once you know what you’re looking at.

Why this dial stands out

Lavender dials occupy a quiet but important corner of vintage Rolex collecting. They weren’t loud or experimental; they were simply uncommon, produced briefly and in small quantities. The color sits somewhere between silver and purple, shifting gently depending on the light and giving the watch depth without pulling focus away from its clean Oyster Perpetual layout.

Set against the smooth steel bezel and balanced case proportions, the dial adds individuality while keeping the watch grounded and wearable. It remains a classic ref. 1500 in form, just with a far less frequently encountered face.

Condition, clearly stated

Condition on this example is notably strong. The case remains unpolished, retaining its original shape and finish with only light wear consistent with age. The dial is original and presents cleanly, with an even surface and no distracting flaws. The crystal is clear, and the overall presentation feels cohesive and well preserved.

The watch is fitted to its Rolex Oyster rivet bracelet, which wears comfortably and is fully appropriate to the period. Mechanically, the automatic movement is fully functional and keeping time as expected, with all core components remaining original.

A rare-color Oyster Perpetual

This isn’t a watch defined by complication or excess. It’s a classic Rolex elevated by a factory dial choice that’s genuinely difficult to replace — and here, preserved in a condition that’s increasingly hard to find.

For someone who values originality, uncommon colorways, and vintage Rolex that rewards a closer look, this ref. 1500 offers balance, presence, and a quiet distinction that sets it apart from standard examples.

History

The Rolex Oyster non-date tells one of the clearest stories in watchmaking. It comes from an idea that changed the wristwatch forever: the Oyster case, introduced by Rolex in 1926, built to protect the movement from water, dust, and the wear of daily life. That was not just a technical step forward. It changed what a wristwatch could be. It made the watch something you could live in, rely on, and carry with you through the ordinary and the important moments alike.

The non-date Oyster feels especially honest because it leaves nothing to hide behind. No magnified window, no extra complication competing for attention, just time itself laid out with calm balance and clarity. There is something deeply satisfying about that restraint. The dial feels complete, almost intimate, as if every element has been allowed to breathe.

Over the years, the Oyster non-date has become more than a simple Rolex. It represents the quiet confidence at the heart of the brand: durability, precision, and design that does not beg to be noticed. Its beauty is not loud. It grows on you. The longer you look at it, the more it feels like the essence of Rolex stripped back to its most human form</p>

I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)

Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.

This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
