Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 1005 — Blue "Sigma" Dial

Details

The Story

Here's a vintage Rolex reference 1005 Oyster Perpetual with a blue sigma dial from the late 60s, early 70s. Recently serviced. Keeps great time and is fully functional. Measurements include a 34mm oyster case and 19mm lug width. It's on a grey pebble-textured leather strap (Made in Italy). Time only. Blue sigma dial with matching gold hands and hour markers. The lume in both the hands and lume plots developed a nice yellow patina. Drilled lug holes. Gold fluted bezel and crown. The bezel has worn down over time, as seen in the photos. The case, lugs, and caseback are really worn out and scratched. Both the dial and crystal are free from any scratches or marks. All parts are original including the signed Rolex crown, caseback, dial, and movement. Both the dial and case are in great cosmetic, untouched condition.

History

The Rolex Oyster non-date tells one of the clearest stories in watchmaking. It comes from an idea that changed the wristwatch forever: the Oyster case, introduced by Rolex in 1926, built to protect the movement from water, dust, and the wear of daily life. That was not just a technical step forward. It changed what a wristwatch could be. It made the watch something you could live in, rely on, and carry with you through the ordinary and the important moments alike.

The non-date Oyster feels especially honest because it leaves nothing to hide behind. No magnified window, no extra complication competing for attention, just time itself laid out with calm balance and clarity. There is something deeply satisfying about that restraint. The dial feels complete, almost intimate, as if every element has been allowed to breathe.

Over the years, the Oyster non-date has become more than a simple Rolex. It represents the quiet confidence at the heart of the brand: durability, precision, and design that does not beg to be noticed. Its beauty is not loud. It grows on you. The longer you look at it, the more it feels like the essence of Rolex stripped back to its most human form</p>
