Audemars Piguet 5237/199 - Champagne Dial
Before the Royal Oak defined the brand
This vintage Audemars Piguet from the 1970s comes from a period when the maison’s reputation was built almost entirely on elegant, low-volume dress watches. Long before the Royal Oak reshaped how collectors think about AP, pieces like this were the foundation — slim, refined, and produced in quantities so small that many variations were effectively short runs.
At 31.5mm in 18k yellow gold, this watch reflects that era perfectly: understated in size, rich in execution, and focused entirely on proportion and finish.
Why this configuration matters
The defining features here are the woven theme carried through the entire watch. The champagne dial features a woven-texture finish with applied indices, paired with a matching pencil handset that keeps the look balanced and period-correct. It’s subtle at first glance, but the texture comes alive in changing light.
Equally important is the integrated yellow gold woven bracelet with a signed locking clasp. This isn’t an accessory — it’s central to the design. The bracelet gives the watch weight, flow, and a jewelry-forward presence that strap-based examples simply don’t replicate. Watches like this show just how experimental and confident AP was with design in the mid-20th century.
The manual-wind movement keeps the case slim and reinforces the traditional watchmaking approach that defined the brand long before sports models entered the picture.
Condition, clearly stated
The case is in excellent overall condition, showing normal signs of wear consistent with age and careful use. The woven champagne dial is in excellent shape, with light oxidation visible on the applied indices, matching the character of the original handset. The acrylic crystal presents well.
The integrated bracelet remains strong and visually intact. Due to the construction of this bracelet style, resizing may require custom work, with an estimated lead time once wrist measurements are confirmed.
The watch includes its books and papers, an increasingly uncommon detail for integrated dress pieces from this era.
A side of Audemars Piguet worth remembering
This is the kind of watch that explains why Audemars Piguet earned its place among the greats — not through hype, but through restraint, creativity, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Slim, elegant, and unmistakably vintage, it represents a chapter of AP history that seasoned collectors tend to appreciate most.
For someone drawn to design-led vintage watches with real brand DNA, this woven-bracelet AP is a compelling reminder of what the maison was capable of long before the modern era.

What Our Clients Say About Us
I knew I was gonna like Danny, based on his name, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how great of an experience this was. He had the most beautiful 70s Seamaster Cosmic on his website and I was set to be married 2 days later - I arranged to buy it but before leaving we both realized it needed to be serviced. I panicked, because I was literally buying this for my wedding, and Danny being the legend he is, loaned me a nearly identical Seamaster to make sure I could get through the event Never have I had someone go so above and beyond for me, especially while purchasing one of the lesser priced items in their inventory. He serviced my watch and exchanged it with me after the wedding on a super fast turnaround timeline. I would sincerely recommend you visit this guy, you will not be disappointed Edit: adding a pic of the loaner (two tone) and the owner (crosshair)
Great service and shop. Danny and his team were incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. Great selection of vintage watches. Their store is the hidden gem in the diamond district.
This was my first real luxury watch purchase, a Rolex 15200 Date 34mm, I own Tissots and a Laco, but those are entry level luxury watches. I found Danny’s Vintage Watches online, and had great feedback both on Google, Chrono24 and the Reddit watch community. So decided to give him a shot as buying online can be a crap shoot. Ordered Monday night, was at my doorstep Friday morning. Despite the watch being over 30 years old, serial number says it’s from 91, the watch looked new. Didn’t come with box or papers, and was shipped in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap. Danny was always available to answer questions. I’ll be buying from Danny again for the next purchase…saw a couple of Speedmasters on his site I liked….
Can't recommend Danny's vintage watches enough!!! My first Omega ever and im in love have been wearing every day since I purchased it. Danny's shop is a must visit if you are in NYC looking for a watch!!!
